Эффектное ароидное, цветущее рано весной, одновременно с появлением листьев. В природе встречается вдоль западного побережья Северной Америки от Аляски до Калифорнии, растёт по сырым, болотистым местам. В Европе нередко выращивается в ботанических садах, как одичавшее известно из Великобритании и Ирландии.
