A 4-Year PhD position is available at the University of Tromso (Norway)
The Cell Signalling and Targeted Therapy (CSTT) research group is looking for a talented student with a master’s degree in molecular biology (or related field) to undertake a PhD project within cancer biology.

Summary of the project:
Cancer tumours differs from normal tissue in many ways. One of the characteristics of the tumour tissue is that it is weakly acidic. This weakly acidic environment has direct consequences for how the tumour progresses and for the ability of residing cancer cells to metastasis. Still, very little is known about how cancer cells respond to a weakly acidic microenvironment. Our group has found that a certain signalling protein is rapidly upregulated inside cells that are exposed to a weakly acidic microenvironment. The aim of the project is to find out how this protein is upregulated and what it does within the cells. Using standard techniques of molecular biology, you and fellow researchers within the group will answer these interesting questions.

University of Tromso:
The university has more than 15.000 students from more than 50 countries. It is located in northern Norway. Campus is located within the old city centre. The laboratory is well equipped for biochemical and molecular studies and has access to shared state-of-the-art research facilities at the university. We offer excellent working conditions and a picturesque work place at the northern-most university in the world. Payment is according to the state salary scale, 490-530.000 NOK (about 49.000 EUR) per year.
